GREAT LEADERS VALUE RELATIONSHIPs

Team:

Today in The One Year Playbook we see them in a big storm. We also see Job trying to reason with God. Job would find out that having a relationship with God is better than trying to figure out the Why's of Life. JOB 37:1-39:30

When we have a relationship with God we learn to trust Him and realize He has our best interest in mind for everything He does.

GREAT LEADERS VALUE RELATIONSHIPS

When we are the Storm of our life (we all have a few) we can get confused and try to find reasons for everything happening.
" The problems of life are solved not by reasons but by relationships. Job wanted to reason with God, but what he really needed was to rest in God. Job saw God's Greatness and his own littleness, and that was the turning point. However, the smaller we are in our own eyes, the greater God makes us in His eyes."
Warren Wiersby

John the Baptist said, "He must increase and I must decrease."

Friends, when we let God live through us His Greatness comes out of us. What if we could live this way for one hour? What if we could live this way one day? One week? One month? ect... This is a Relationship.

GREAT LEADERS VALUE RELATIONSHIPS

When we have a relationship with God we realize how big He is. We don't need to figure things out and ask why this or why that. We Just Go!

Fw: GREAT LEADERS STAND FIRM

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see
Elihu talking down to Job again.
JOB 34:1-36:33

Job was not only stripped of his wealth, fortune and position he was being stripped of his pride and self worth.

Wow! When it rains it pours. Now we have a young self righteous person saying things to make himself look good at Job's expense.

GREAT LEADERS STAND FIRM

How do you feel when someone interrogates you? This is a very tough position to be in. In Job's case he was totally innocent.

Friends, sometimes the enemy tries to derail us to take us out of the game. The enemy will ridicule us and put us down. There is a recorder going over and over in our minds with judgemental suggestions that sound just like Elihu.

The enemy is just like Elihu. He will whisper and mix truth with lies to keep us confused. He wants us to feel guilty and unsure of ourselves and our relationship with God and family. He wants us to freeze so we don't share the Gospel.

When we are faced with this the enemy tries to say that God is convicting us. Sometimes it is confusing whether it is God or the enemy.

Pastor Chuck said, "if the conviction draws you closer to God then it is the Holy Spirit. If it draws you away from God it is the enemy. God will never draw us away from Him. He wants to draw us closer to Him."

We need to turn that nasty recorder off and remember God has great plans for us to prosper us and give us a great future and a hope. Jer 29:11

If we have blown it the Word says, "if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

No matter what God wants to free us from guilt and condemnation so we can get in the game and Win! Stand Firm!

Great Leaders Have Grace

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see a young arrogant college graduate who thinks he knows everything. Elihu was a spoiled College Grad who had no respect for anyone.

Elihu was very judgmental and harsh with his words. A lot of what He is saying is true but it comes across with arrogance and piety.

God is just. God is not mocked. Whatever we sow we will reap. This is all true.

The Word of God is sharper than a two edged sword. We have to be careful how we use it. Is it judgemental or graceful?

Elihu would say, "the Wages of Sin is death."

Wait a minute Elihu. You forgot the second part of the verse:

"The Gift of God is Everlasting Life to those in Christ."

"There is therefore now no condemnation to those in Christ."

"If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

God is so good. When we represent God, Jesus said, "they will know you are my disciples by your love for one another."

We need to show God's Love, Grace and Mercy.

"It's the goodness of God that leads people to turn and follow Him."

In the 70's a generation of hippies were turned away by the Church. Chuck and Kay Smith realized these young people were very talented and smart but were a lost generation. They both began to Pray and a Young Hippie by the name of Lonnie Frisby showed up at the Chuck and Kay's door.

This young man was so talented and was able to help lead a New Generation of Believers.

Now Calvary Chapel has been an instrument that God has used to save millions of people from a life of despair.

Friends, God is in the business recovery. The Lord wants to turn things around. He isn't judging us. He is here to lift us up and poor favor upon us.

GREAT LEADERS ARE DETERMINED!

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see Job's Determination to live a righteous life.

Satan and Bildad are still trying to interrogate Job. They are in court and Job is being cross examined.

Job 27:6 "I will maintain my righteousness and never let go of it;..."

GREAT LEADERS ARE DETERMINED!

A lot of what the enemy says about us is true. The bible tells us we have all sinned and made mistakes. However, a lot of what the enemy says is false accusations and assumptions.

Satan will try to mix truth in with lies to suck us into his vortex.

Jesus went through this in the wilderness. When he was fasting 40 days. Jesus succeeded by fighting back with the Word of God the Playbook. Jesus was prepared before the battle by knowing the Playbook. Jesus was Determined to Win the Battle in the Wilderness before he got there.

GREAT LEADERS ARE DETERMINED AND PREPARED!

Job was also Determined to Win his battle. The enemy was trying to accuse him. Job didn't have a lawyer to help him plead his case so Job had to defend himself.

Friends, today we are so fortunate. We don't have to defend ourselves. We have our own personal lawyer to stand up against the enemy and plead our case before God.

"My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous." 1 John 2:1

GREAT LEADERS ARE DETERMINED AND PREPARED!

Jesus is our Lawyer and is Determined to Plead our case before the Father.

As our Lawyer Jesus is talking to the Father on our behalf to free us.

Isn't God Awesome? He is so Determined. He gave us His only begotten Son Jesus to be our Lawyer. God knew this was the only solution.

God is Determined to Make us Winners.

Are we Determined to Let Him?

Fw: LEADERS EXPECT THE BEST

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see Bildad talking about death. He talks about doom and gloom. JOB 16:1-19:29

Bildad was expecting the worst and preparing for it.

Bildad was living a life full of doubt and condemnation. Bildad was worried and miserable.

"Misery loves company."

Bildad was a "friend" that was happy his buddy Job was miserable. It made Bildad feel better about himself.

Do you know anyone like that?

LEADERS EXPECT THE BEST AND PREPARE FOR THE WORST

Bildad only talks about the negative.

On the other hand Job was a person who lived in expectation and anticipation of God doing great things.

Job was familiar with death and prepared for the worst but he expected the best.

Job said, "I know my redeemer lives and I will see Him."

Job had hope in a mediator who could plead his case.

What is our hope in? When everything is against us who and what do we Trust in?

Bildad gave up on life. Job endured the pain and looked forward to the future with Christ for eternity.

When you expect the best you live a life full of Possibilities.

Possibility Thinking knows, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Phil 4:13

Team:

Today in The One Year Playbook we see
Satan and Job's friends are trying to pry something out of Job. They keep trying to find something wrong in his life.
JOB 20:1-22:30

GREAT LEADERS TURN NEGATIVE TO POSITIVE!

Satan is trying to make us feel ashamed. If he can do that he can stop our momentum.

They were saying if you were righteous none of this would have happened.

They were saying you only love God because God blesses you with riches.

The fact that Job still trusted God after losing everything is proof these insinuations are wrong.

Job 1 shows Satan going back and forth to God accusing us. Satan knows God wins but he wants to hassle us by trying to pry something out of us. He tries to have us falsely admit something and then lay guilt trips on us.

Satan wants us to keep reliving our mistakes over and over like a recorder.

GREAT LEADERS TURN NEGATIVE TO POSITIVE!

Friends, it's time to turn that negative recorder off and remember, "There is no condemnation to those in Christ." Rom 8:1

Turn on the positive recorder that says,
"God has great Plans for us with a Future and a Hope." Jer 29:11

Fw: GREAT LEADERS HAVE INTEGRITY

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see how Job's friend's are accusing him of a lot of things. Instead of listening and going to God in prayer they are trying to solve the problem by pointing fingers at Job. JOB 12:1-15:35

Have you ever been accused of something you did not do?

The great thing about Job is he maintained his integrity throughout this miserable chapter of his life.

GREAT LEADERS HAVE INTEGRITY

Man's way is to try to find an answer now!

We want the problem fixed now!

There must be a reason for all of this!

It must be "Karma, What goes around comes around."

We want to jump to conclusions.

God's way is to wait on Him for the answer. God has reasons why things happen that we don't know about.

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. Isaiah 55:8

Job's friends called him a

"hypocrite" (8:13; 15:34; 20:5; 34:30);

God called him an "Upright Man" (1:8; 2:3).

Job would not bargain with God to regain his material prosperity.

Job's greatest asset was his integrity.

Fw: LEADERS LEAD THROUGH ENCOURAGEMENT!

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see an opportunity to listen and encourage. Instead of encouraging Bildad and Eliphaz critisise and lay guilt trips on Job.
JOB 8:1-11:20

Where are Job's friends when he needs them? Obviously these guys were jealous of Job. They kicked him when he was down.

GREAT LEADERS LEAD THROUGH ENCOURAGEMENT!

These guys were saying that God is paying Job back for what he deserved.
These two "friends" were judging Job and jumping to conclusions

Have you ever had something bad happen to you and someone say, "see I told you so?" If you would have, could have or should have, ect.... then this wouldn't have happened."

Friends, God doesn't work that way. Yes God allows things to happen but not because He is out to get us. God has an overall purpose and in time things will work out better for us.

GREAT LEADERS LEAD THROUGH ENCOURAGEMENT!

One day some people asked Jesus why a certain person was blind. They asked him if it was his mother or father's sin that caused this?

Jesus said, "neither." It's nobody's fault. I allowed it to show you a miracle. Then Jesus healed him.

This young man lived in condemnation and guilt for years thinking he did something to deserve being blind. His parents lived in condemnation thinking they messed up and somehow God was paying them back.

Jesus says no way! The Miracle wasn't just that this young man received his sight. The miracle was the FREEDOM OF CONDEMNATION and GUILT.

What a relief it must have been for him and his parents. What Joy they must have had for the first time in their life.

Romans 8:1 says, There is therefore no condemnation to those in Christ."

Fw: LEADERS LEAD THROUGH STORMS

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we look at a Leader who has been devastated. His whole life has been turned upside down.
Job was in the Storm of Life.

GREAT LEADERS LEAD THROUGH STORMS

"Oh, that I might have my request,
that God would grant what I hope for,
that God would be willing to crush me,
to let loose his hand and cut off my life!
Job 6:9

Job is in The Storm Of Life. He feels like a lot of us do when we go through The Storms Of Life: Confused, Anxious, Angry, Depressed ect...

Have you ever been in a Storm?

Do you know someone in a Storm?

How does a leader keep the Team Focused when going through the Storms of Life?

How do Leaders rally the troops?

Jesus Encouraged His disciples when they were in a storm by saying, "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid."

Just when the disciples thought they were going down Jesus shows up.

God doesn't promise that storms will never come but he does promise He will be with us in the Storm.

Jesus said, "Cheer up! It is I; Do not be afraid.

"Then He went up into the boat to them, and the wind ceased. And they were greatly amazed in themselves beyond measure, and marveled."
Mark 6:49-51

The Storm didn't stop until Jesus got into the boat.

The storm is also in our mind and how we react to circumstances.

When we let Jesus get in our ship the storm in our mind will stop.

He will give us: "PEACE THAT PASSES HUMAN UNDERSTANDING." Phil 4:6-7

When we let Jesus in the ship we will receive Confidence because we know He is in control.

"but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31

To Lead through a Storm we must invite Jesus the Creator into our Home, Family, Relationships, Work Place, Church, ect...

GREAT LEADERS LEAD THROUGH STORMS
WITH THE ONE WHO CONTROLS THE STORMS.

"Restore me, O Lord, and bring me back to you again! Give me back the joy I once had!" (Lamentations 5:21 NLT).

Fw: GREAT LEADERS ENDURE THROUGH SUFFERI

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see a person that was, blameless, upright, feared God and shunned evil. His named is Job.

Have you ever suffered great loss?

GREAT LEADERS ENDURE THROUGH SUFFERING

"In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing." Job 1:22

Here we see behind the scenes in the spiritual dimension. The enemy has access to God. He is going back and forth trying to destroy Job and his family.

Satan is slandering Job and God. Satan is saying the only reason Job worships God is because God blesses him. Satan is saying God has put a Hedge of Protection around Job.

Remember: God has a Hedge of Protection around us as well.

God allows Job to go through some tough times yet Job remained Faithful to God.

Fw: GREAT LEADERS EXPECT MIRACLES!

Team:

In today's One Year Playbook we see an incredible turn of events.

Have you ever felt like your back is up against the wall?

Have you ever felt like there is no way out?

Here we see the result of Great Leadership. Esther and Mordecai knew God was with them and trusted that God would perform a miracle.

GREAT LEADERS EXPECT MIRACLES!

"That same day King Xerxes gave Queen Esther the estate of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came into the presence of the king, for Esther had told how he was related to her. The king took off his signet ring, which he had reclaimed from Haman, and presented it to Mordecai. And Esther appointed him over Haman's estate." Esther 8:1-2

How incredible is this? Israel was down to its last play and God Turns Things Around.

The story doesn't end there. The King wasn't able to reverse the edict so he made a new edict. He would give the Jewish people the right to bear arms and nine months to prepare for the enemy.

Friends, sometimes in life our back is up against the wall. It may be at work, school, sports, relationships, peer pressure, family, ect...

Sometimes it seems like we don't see or hear anything from God. We feel all alone.

God wants us to know that even if it seems like He is not there with us He is. He is behind the scenes preparing our future before we get there. Let's Lead like Esther and Mordecai.

Fw: Great Leaders Will Risk Themselves

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook Esther shows Great Leadership as she is willing to give her life to save her people.

GREAT LEADERS WILL RISK THEMSELVES FOR THE TEAM

"The best use of your life is to live your life so that the use of your life outlives your life.". Jamie Coston ev3

"Go gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the King, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!" Esther 4:17

God put Esther in this position of Leadership to save the Jews from being executed. Esther had a choice. She could have let fear control her or she could step up and trust God.

The Bible talks about the fear of man being a snare. In other words, fear will trip us up and get us confused.

On the other hand the Lord encourages us to fear and respect Him and we get Wisdom.

QUEEN ESTHER GOT WISDOM

"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."
John 15:13

Friends, everyday we get all kinds of pressure to bow to peer pressure and to compromise our beliefs.

Mordecai let Esther know that she needs to step up or the Jews will be executed with no survivors.

After this Mordecai encouraged Esther and said, "maybe this is why God put you here for such a time as this."

This was Esther's One Special Moment In Time to make a Difference and Change History.

GOD CREATED US FOR A PURPOSE ALSO!
The Lord created us for our Special Moment In Time to change history.

You and I have a Mission. God put us here to make a Difference.

That One Special Moment for Esther wasn't the end. It was only the Beginning.

In the future the King will find favor with the Jews and allow Nehemiah to Lead his Team and Re-Build Jerusalem.

God is already preparing our future, paving the way and putting all the pieces together to allow us to succeed. We can be Confident and Courageous knowing God always wins in the end.

GREAT LEADERS CAN LEAD FROM THE MIDDLE.

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see how God uses the Leadership of Mordecai. ESTHER 1:1-3:15

GREAT LEADERS CAN LEAD FROM THE MIDDLE.

Mordecai was Esther's uncle. He watched out for her from a very young age. Mordecai was a very loyal person. He was always in the mix of things. When Esther was chosen to be queen he checked up on her often.

Mordecai heard of a plot to kill the king. He was able to intercept the message and get it to Esther. Esther then told the king. Mordecai and Esther saved the King's life.

God gives all of us certain gifts to be used for His purpose. If we execute everyone wins. God used Mordecai with his special skill and street knowledge to save the king.

This was very important because years later God would use the kings offspring to encourage Nehemiah to re-build Jerusalem. God knew if the King gets killed then Jerusalem doesn't get rebuilt.

Friends, God is always there before we get there. Just like Mordecai we can all lead from the middle. You don't have to be the King to lead. In this case Mordecai led from where he was to save the king.

GREAT LEADERS CAN LEAD FROM THE MIDDLE.

Great Leaders Delegate Leadership

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we learn of a situation when Nehemiah was out of town. While he was out of town the enemy snuck into the house.

As Leaders we need to remember when we are out of town the enemy tries to sneak in and tempt our team. This may be applicable to family, business, team ect.

Here Nehemiah was away. He was not only responsible for his Team in Jerusalem but also Team in Babylon.

The enemy (Tobiah) knew when Nehemiah would leave and took advantage of it.

GREAT LEADERS DELEGATE LEADERSHIP TO TRUSTED PROVEN LEADERS WHEN OUT TOWN.

The interesting thing is the enemy was inside the city gates.

"Before this, Eliashib the priest had been put in charge of the storerooms of the house of our God. He was closely associated with Tobiah, 5 and he had provided him with a large room formerly used to store the grain offerings and incense and temple articles, and also the tithes of grain, new wine and olive oil prescribed for the Levites, musicians and gatekeepers, as well as the contributions for the priests.

6 But while all this was going on, I was not in Jerusalem, for in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon I had returned to the king. Some time later I asked his permission 7 and came back to Jerusalem. Here I learned about the evil thing Eliashib had done in providing Tobiah a room in the courts of the house of God. 8 I was greatly displeased and threw all Tobiah's household goods out of the room. 9 I gave orders to purify the rooms, and then I put back into them the equipment of the house of God, with the grain offerings and the incense."
Nehemiah 13:6-9

Friends, Steve Ferrar calls it Point Man. We have to Man the Post and protect our family. To do this we need to be home. If we can't be home we have to delegate to Junior to make sure things are going smooth.

Remember everyone is a 360 Leader. We must be or the enemy will sneak in.

Fw: Great Leaders Coach to Win

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see great instruction from a Parent in the book of Psalms.

"Children are not casual guests in our home. They have been loaned to us temporarily for the purpose of loving them and instilling a foundation of values on which their future lives will be built."

James Dobson Focus On The Family

GREAT LEADERS COACH TO WIN.

"Come, my children, listen to me;

Fw: Great Leaders Create Team Unity

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see Ezra and Nehemiah leading the Team by creating unity.

GREAT LEADERS CREATE TEAM UNITY.

"The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual." Vincent Lombardi Packers

"We will not neglect the House of Our God." Neh 10:39

The Walls were completed on the 25th day of the 6th month. The second half of the book starts on the 1st day of the 7th.

They were dedicating the material temple to the Lord. Now that the material temple is completed it is time to build the people spiritually. The building of the Spiritual Temple has begun.

The emphasis is not just hearing the Word but there is greater joy in obeying it.

We see the people obeying in these areas:

Separated from evil

Straightened out their homes

Honor the Commandments

Contribute to the House of the Lord

Serve God with tithes and offerings

Friends, this is Teamwork. Everyone was acting as One Unit.

GREAT LEADERS CREATE TEAM UNITY.

One Goal
One Purpose
One Team

Start Fast - Finish Strong!

Just Go!

Fw: Great Leaders Live Their Faith

Team:

In Today's Playbook we see the results of Great Leadership. Nehemiah Led the nation to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. He partnered up with great 360 Leaders like Zerubbabel. He trusted God to make it happen. Zach 4 says, "not by might nor power but by my Spirit say's the Lord."

Through the process of rebuilding they had to rely on God's Spirit. They delivered the message and trusted God to rally the troops with His Spirit.

They faced opposition and the enemy tried to derail them. However they trusted God and kept the project moving forward.

Great Leaders Keep The Project Moving Forward. Great Leaders Keep Their Deadlines.

"all the people came together as one in the square before the Water Gate. They told Ezra the teacher of the Law to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded for Israel."
Nehemiah 8:1

Jesus said, "blessed are those that hunger and thirst for righteousness."

This is the Result of Great Leadership.

First of all these people came together as one. Nehemiah didn't have to bribe them to come. Nehemiah did such a great job preparing their hearts for this moment that it was a natural reaction.

After they showed up at the Water Gate they listened to Ezra explain God's Word to them out of the Playbook.

The 3 things Ezra emphasized were:

Confession

Forgiveness

Worship

After Ezra read the people were joyful and celebrated their new beginning.

Friends, Today is our new beginning. No matter what has happened in the past God has a great future for us.

When we follow the Leadership of Nehemiah and then emulate his Leadership in our own areas of influence (family, team, business ect...) we will win.
Start Fast...Finish Strong!

Just Go!

Fw: A True Leader Stays On Course

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we learn that Nehemiah stayed with the game plan. Great Leaders Stick With The Game Plan.

Great Leaders Stay On Course.

"I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?" 4 Four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave them the same answer. Nehemiah 6:3-4

Many times the enemy will try to get us sidetracked. Sometimes it's when we are down and sometimes it's when we have a lot of success. Nehemiah shows great Leadership here by staying on course.

The Playbook tells us to let our Yes be Yes and our No be No. Matthew 5:37

When we waffle back and forth in the gray zone we get sidetracked. The enemy wants us to hassle over decisions and get confused and frustrated.

Sometimes it's the "little" things that get us sidetracked.

Great Leaders Make Decisions And Execute.

Great Leaders are so Prepared they Just Go!

Nehemiah made the decision to remain focused on his goal and execute.

Nehemiah said,

"The show must go on"

The enemy then tried to make up false rumors to frighten the people so they would stop working. Nehemiah quickly responded and said the rumors were false.

Nehemiah finally was able to shut the gate from the enemy. As a result all the surrounding nations were frightened. They knew God was doing a great work.

Friends, the enemy knows you are doing a Great work for God in your own area of influence. Satan wants to derail it.

Just like with Nehemiah, Satan wants to have a meeting with us and work something out. Nehemiah said, "no way." And we need say, "no way."

"PRIORITIES ARE NON NEGOTIABLE!

Nehemiah was busy about God's work. When we are busy about God's work we don't have time to negotiate and compromise with the enemy.

As students God has called you to a great work. Maybe you started a campus Bible Study. Maybe there is opposition and frustrations that try to derail you.

"PRIORITIES ARE NON NEGOTIABLE!

Great Leaders Stay On Course.

"A True Leader will not desert his or her post, but a hireling flees when the going is tough." (Prov. 28:1)

Fw: Great Leaders Protect Their Team

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see Strong Leadership by Nehemiah.

Nehemiah is rallying the Team to build up Walls of Protection around the city and the Temple.

We need to also rally our Team to build walls of protection around our Family and our Faith.

Leaders anticipate opposition and Prepare to Prepare.

When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, "What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?" Nehemiah 4:1-2

Friends, in life we are going to face trials and tribulation. People are going to ridicule us and our loved ones. That is why it is so important to build Walls of Protection.

Great battles in history were led by leaders like: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and George Patton. Every battle had challenges but in the end these Leaders Stood Tall.

Great Leaders Stand Tall in the end.

The Spiritual Walls of Protection are built by:

Reading the Word

Prayer

Teamwork/Fellowship

Great Leaders Protect their Team.

Great Leaders Stand Tall in the end.

Just Go!!!

Leaders Accept Responsibility

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see Great Leadership as Nehemiah was taking full responsibility for the situation they are in. Nehemiah was Accepting Responsibility.

Leaders Accept Responsibility.

Leaders Don't Shift Blame.

"When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven." Then I said:

"LORD, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father's family, have committed against you. We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses.
Nehemiah 1: 5-7

Nehemiah say's, we have sinned. He didn't try to shift the blame. He said it was our leadership that caused this pain.

Nehemiah owned up to the problem.

Leaders Accept Responsibility.

As Team Leaders we need to own up to the problem. This includes Parents, Older Siblings, Coaches, Managers, Mentors ect.. Your Team is anyone you influence.

Here is what one of the Greatest College Football Coaches of all time says:

"If anything goes bad, I did it. If anything goes semi-good, we did it. If anything goes real good, you did it. That's all it takes to get people to win football games."

Team:

Leaders Honor God.

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." 1 Cor 6:16

Friends, God wants to live in us. In the old testament the Temple was the place for the World to Connect with God.

In the same way the Bible tells us we are the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, "let your Light shine so the world will glorify God."

Now check this out. Since we are the Temple of the Holy Spirit we are also the place for the World to Connect with God.

Leaders Honor God so God can connect with people and people can connect with God.

Leaders Tell It Like It Is

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see Ezra being painfully honest with the Team.

Leaders Tell it Like it is.

Here Ezra gets right to the point

"But now, our God, what can we say after this? For we have forsaken the commands you gave through your servants the prophets when you said: 'The land you are entering to possess is a land polluted by the corruption of its peoples. By their detestable practices they have filled it with their impurity from one end to the other. Therefore, do not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. Do not seek a treaty of friendship with them at any time, that you may be strong and eat the good things of the land and leave it to your children as an everlasting inheritance.'
Ezra 9:10-12

This is like our life. We come into the Promised Land. A life of Victory. A life of turning away from sin. A New Beginning. We are doing so well then we suddenly turn away.

The Good News is God brings us back and cleans us up. He then gives us some great advice to help us Win in the future.

Leaders Tell It Like It Is.

Leaders Rally the Troops

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see Ezra leading from within and rallying the other leaders.

"Praise be to the LORD, the God of our ancestors, who has put it into the king's heart to bring honor to the house of the LORD in Jerusalem in this way, and who has extended his good favor to me before the king and his advisers and all the king's powerful officials. Because the hand of the LORD my God was on me, I took courage and gathered leaders from Israel to go up with me." Ezra 7:27-28

First, we see that God puts it on the heart of the king to bring Honor to God.

Just like God worked back then on the King God can also work on our President, Senators, Congressmen and Supreme Court.

As Leaders we need to pray for the leadership of our city, county, state and nation that God would put it on the heart of the leaders to Honor God.

Second, Ezra noticed the hand of God on him and this gave him courage to rally the troops.

Friends the Hand of God is on you as well
Ask God to give you the Courage today to rally the troops in your area of influence.

Fw: Leaders Finish Strong!

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we see Great Leadership from Haggai and Zechariah. Zerubbabel, Joshua and Jozadak were the Player Leaders on the field that executed the gameplan.
Ezra 5-6

Leaders Finish Strong!

"Now Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the prophet, a descendant of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them. 2 Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Joshua son of Jozadak set to work to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem. And the prophets of God were with them, supporting them." Ezra 5:1-2

The Temple Project began but then it was stopped for 15 years.

Sometimes while building our own Spiritual Temple we also get stopped. We begin our relationship with God with great results but then the Project slows down.

Just like the Re-building of the Temple takes time. When we are Re-building our life it takes time.

As we read the Playbook, Pray and Seek God every day we will be "Transformed by the renewing of our mind."

Behavior change takes time. God works with us through the process. God is patient and is constantly molding us into his image by the Holy Spirit.

We are going to make mistakes along the way. Even in the mistakes God can use it as opportunity to increase our Faith tenfold.

God uses our mistakes to prepare us for next time. Sometimes God uses the little mistakes to wake us up and warn us that a Bigger Consequence is going to happen next time if we don't fix it.

As Zerubbabel was rebuilding the Temple he wondered how he was ever going to finish the project. Sometimes in our own life we want to quit before we start. We say, "It's no use I can never change my behavior."

"Sometimes behavior and change takes awhile. But God is long suffering."
Jana Ponder

Here is what God told Zerubbabel, "it's not by might nor power but by my Spirit saith the Lord." Zech 4

The Holy Spirit will give us Power if we allow Him to.

Just like the Prophets of God were there to support Zerubbabel God will support us with like minded friends and mentors to support us.

Keep fighting. Don't quit. Finish Strong!

The most important thing to Remember is to Finish Strong!

Leaders Finish Strong!

"Success seems to be connected with Action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes but they don't quit."

Fw: Leaders Build a Great Foundation

Team:

Yesterday we talked about a New Beginning. We talked about Cyrus King of Persia and his Leadership. God can use even a pagan king to accomplish His work. EZRA 3:1-4:23

God gave Isaiah a Prophesy 150 years before Cyrus was born that Cyrus would lead Israel to Re-Build the Temple.

"who says of Cyrus, 'He is my shepherd and will accomplish all that I please; he will say of Jerusalem, "Let it be rebuilt," and of the temple, "Let its foundations be laid."' Isaiah 44:28

In Chapter 3 the Foundation of the Temple is laid. The first thing they did was worship and celebrate God's goodness. The older people wept and the younger people celebrated. The older people regretted falling away from God but were happy to start over. The younger people were excited about the possibilities of a Great Future with God.

In Chapter 4 the building stops. We don't know the whole story here but there were jealous threatened people trying to stop the project.

For 15 years the people had to rely on that early foundation that was set for the Temple.

Our lives are like this Temple Project. It is so important to lay a great Spiritual Foundation with the Word, Prayer and Fellowship.

The enemy will come and try to destroy the work God has started in our lives. By having a great Foundation our team, kids family ect.. will withstand the enemy.

The Storms of life will come. When they do will our foundation hold?

"For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 3:11

Leaders Learn From The Past

Team:

In today's One Year Playbook we read about the end of a Dynasty.

Leaders learn from past mistakes so they don't repeat them in the future.
2 CHRONICLES 35:1-36:23

Fortunately we can learn some lessons from the fallen Dynasty of David and Solomon.

David was a sheppard boy from Jesse's house. His grandmother was Ruth from Moab. She barely survived but God honored her because she honored God.

The Nation was very small and week until David and Solomon built it up to be the most powerful nation of that time.

Judah and Israel had so much potential but Pride and Power destroyed them.

They forgot God and did not pass on the Playbook on to the next Generation.

Here is the Answer.

Fw: Leaders Are Prepared For The Storm

Team:

Today in the One Year Playbook we find out if Hezekiah was ready to lead when the Storm hit.

The Storm was Sennacherib and the Assyrian Army invading Judah.

The people were beginning to worry as the enemy set up camp outside of Judah.
Hezekiah shows Great Leadership and Encouragement here with this speech:

"With him (Sennacherib) is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles." And the people were Strengthened by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah."
2Chronicles 32:8

The enemy then tried to get people to doubt Hezekiah's leadership. He did this verbally and he wrote letters.

What did Hezekiah do?

"Hezekiah Prayed"
2 Chronicles 32:20

Hezekiah gave it to the Lord and God performed an Amazing Victory. In the Book of 2 Kings and Isaiah you can read how God brought the Victory.
2 Kings 18:1-19; Isaiah 36-39

Friends, the same is true in our lives. When we are on the Road to Victory and accomplishing Great things for God the enemy will set up camp and try to bring us down.

After he sets up camp he will try to bring in negative thoughts that make our head spin out of control. The enemy wants to derail us.

This is why Jesus Encouraged us to Build a Solid Foundation in Matthew 7. So when the Storms come we will be prepared and be able to Stand.

Hezekiah passed the test because he got his people Spiritually Prepared.

Great Leaders Prepare Their Team so when the Storm hits the Team is Prepared.
