GREAT LEADERS ARE COMMITTED!

Team:

What is Commitment? What does it mean to be totally devoted?

In Today's One Year Playbook we see the Rekabite or Rechabite family sticking with a commitment that was made a few generations earlier by Rekab the Grandfather.

The founder of the Rechabite family had assisted Jehu in removing Baal worship from the land (2 Kings 10:15-17) so they had a Godly heritage. When the Babylonian army moved in, the Rechabites had to abandon their nomadic way of life and enter Jerusalem for safety.
They abandoned their tents but not their standards. Wiersby

GREAT LEADERS ARE COMMITTED!

The Rekabites

1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD during the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah: 2 "Go to the Rekabite family and invite them to come to one of the side rooms of the house of the LORD and give them wine to drink."

Why would God do this? Why would He want to have these people drink in the "side" room of the house of the Lord?

This was a test to show how committed the Rekabites were and how uncommitted God's own people were.

Earlier (2 Kings 10:15-17) the Rekabites helped Jehu cleanse the Temple of Baal worship. At that time Rekab encouraged his kids not to drink wine.

GREAT LEADERS ARE COMMITTED!

Now 50 years later we see that the grandchildren of Rekab were still committed to their vow.

Even though it was a "side" room where no one could see them they said, "No!"

GREAT LEADERS ARE COMMITTED!

God used this test to show His own people that the Rekabites kept their commitments but His own did not.

When we keep our commitment to live for God the commitment will be passed on to many generations after us. In fact God promised the Rekabites that someone in their family will always serve God.

GREAT LEADERS ARE COMMITTED!

In 1948 The Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Guess who had them? The descendants of the Rekabites.

The founding of the Dead Sea Scrolls proved the King James Bible was translated correctly from Hebrew to English. This was a huge discovery.

It was only possible because one man made a commitment to help Jehu (2 Kings 10:15-17) and encourage his family to live a life fully devoted to the Lord.

GREAT LEADERS ARE COMMITTED!

Our commitments today will trickle down for many generations. Our commitments have a huge impact whether we realize it or not.

Let's decide today to be committed to Praying, Reading and Encouraging every day.

GREAT LEADERS ARE COMMITTED!
